Contents of the City & Guilds Communications Cabling Training Programme
This combined City & Guilds 3667-02 Units:101 and 104 course is the recognised qualification for professional datacomms cabling and Telecom's structured cabling installers.
The award is made up of two courses.
The theory element is Unit 101 Basic communications principles which is mandatory. This is studied online. You then only attend at our training centre once you have completed this to take part in practical hands on training, designed to turn those taking the course into a capable technician able to do the job.
Course 101 Principles of communication Cabling
This unit is mandatory and must be completed by every learner to achieve the level 2 Certificate in Communications Cabling.
This unit is concerned with the health and safety working practises and the basic principles of communications.
This Unit is a self directed home study unit. constructed with knowledge reviews to allow you to confirm your learning as you work your way through each section. This Unit must be studied and all Knowledge Review completed BEFORE attending classroom training.
Though we do go through this with you in a classroom revision/Test preparation period, prior to you taking the test for this unit.
The outcomes the training is to facilitate as listed in the City & Guilds Specifications are as follows:
Outcome 1: Identify the safe working practices in communication systems.
Outcome 2: Describe the basic principles of SI units and symbols.
Outcome 3: Describe the basic principles of communication systems.
Outcome 4: Describe the basic principles of data communication.
During the course you will be assessed by qualified trainers, on completion you will be required to take, an on line examination of around 25 multiple choice questions. If you pass the test you will earn the City & Guilds 3667-02 Unit 1 certificate.
Course Unit 104 Copper cabling in an internal environment.
This unit should be taken by those who would be working with data cabling inside buildings or between buildings for example connecting into communication racks and network points within buildings. And those working with Copper telecommunications cabling

This unit is a training centre based training programme concerned with the installation, use of connectors, termination and testing of cabling in a data communications environment.
The outcomes the training is as required in the City & Guilds Specifications detailed as follows:
Outcome 1: Work safely with copper cabling in an internal environment.
Outcome 2: Understand basic electrical theory and safety with reference to data communications cabling.
Outcome 3: Install copper communication cabling, following recommended installation procedures in accordance with current applicable standards.
Outcome 4: Terminate copper communication cabling.
Outcome 5: Test FTP, UTP and multicore copper links.
During the course you will be required to complete practical tasks and be assessed by industry approved trainers,
1: Conduct a risk assessment prior to installation of copper cables in an internal environment.
2: Work safely when installing, terminating and testing copper cables in an internal
environment
.
3: Check cable and components before installation. Check that correct cable laying procedures are followed
4: Terminate copper Telecommunications cabling. Punch down in box con's. E & D side telephony
5: Terminate hardware in accordance with manufacturers recommendations and correctly, Mount into communications panels/wall/floor boxes/cabinets and frames.
6: Terminate registered jack (RJ) 45 connectors from at least three vendors on to UTP and FTP cabling
The whole focus is on spending your time with us, completing hands on practical training. Way in excess of that required by City & GuildsSo that you can do the job, be practiced and competent at copper jointing, on completion you will then you will be awarded City & Guilds 3667-02 component certificate for this unit.
